The etiology of bone loss in lupus nephritis (LN) patients is multifactorial, including not only traditional risk factors, but also SLE-related risk factors. We showed that newly diagnosed LN patients ( 2 months) presented a reduced bone formation associated with an increase in resorption parameters. These findings could not be attributed to glucocorticoid use, raising the relevance of vitamin D status and inflammatory factors to the physiophatology of bone disease.
