Regional citrate anticoagulation dialysis (RCAD) is a very effective treatment for AKI cases at increased bleeding risk. Citrate and calcium kinetic are important aspects of RCAD, where the citrate and calcium infusion rates are usually determined by algorithms based on the measurement of blood ionized calcium (iCa) (2-4). To verify the reliability of automated infusions we measured calcium mass-balance (CaMB) and citrate mass-balance (CiMB) by direct determination of total Calcium (tCa) and citrate (Ci) recovered in the effluent fluid.
