I find it always intriguing how bench research findings may actually be reflected by clinical studies - in this case the recently established property of the CaSR to form dimers and oligomeric mosaics, and our finding that heterozygotes and homozygotes for a certain polymorphism respond differently in the first 2 hours after administration of cinacalcet. Noteworthy, already in 2002 when Bill Goodman published the first dose-response curve with just 6 patients, one of them went up with his PTH instead of down... One out of 6 is a good estimate, in a study in Innsbruck we found about 10 of dialysis patients to be heterozygote for this polymorphism
